Photo Challenge – Something Sweet

19 Jul

There are four things sweet in this image:

  1. My popsicle
  2. Me
  3. Kevin Keller
  4. AND my Batman button

This gives a decent idea of what I did today (despite that 3 hour chunk playing Pokémon…).  I focused on Me (WHICH I ALWAYS DO).  I worked on my Kevin Keller piece for about 2 hours earlier and I’m taking a break from working on it right now.

Also, I got a free Batman button at the comic shop… SO I WILL LOOK HELLA COOL when I wait in line for 50 hours to see The Dark Knight Rises tomorrow.  C’mon people!  Let’s break some records!

Hidden story behind this image: this is one of about a dozen photographs (that, to the normal eye, look identical) in which I perfected myself.  First, I had to make sure the popsicle looked a similar color as the cover to Kevin Keller.  Then, I had to get the popsicle, my face, the comic, and the Batman button all in the same frame.  Also, I kept on switching between two facial expressions without realizing it.  I was either deadly serious or raising my eyebrows.  In this photo I just look mildly amused.

Or incredibly subdued in my badassery.

PHOTO. CHALLENGE.  It’s worth your time (and virtual, meaningless money).  So, check it out!

Photo Challenge – Something I Bought

17 Jul

I’ve been meaning to get Pokémon Emerald for awhile.  I’m going for my Pokédex and Gen III is something I’m a little lacking on.  I bought this from China (yeah!), and I haven’t tested it out yet.  I’ve got to finish writing that article, but this WILL be my reward.

Also, Selena sent this bookmark to me in the mail:

She knows the way to my heart.

I write about Pokémon a lot.  So, here’s where Taylor and I go through our TOP POKEMON.

This post is a little sparse, but you can check the rest of the PHOTO CHALLENGE for some more quality entertainment involving my life!

Photo Challenge – My Water

11 Jul

This prompt seems rather obscure to me… Water?  What water?  Should I take a picture of my tap water?  My dogs’ water bowl?  The sweat that secretes from my skin?  I’m not quite too sure.

So, here’s how I started:

Look there’s me with my water bottle (Hydro Flask)!  We’re quite red!  Also, I’m not wearing any pants, but my boxers are red too… strange since, in my previous post, I lamented the color red.

Here’s a picture of me pouring the water out of my nifty water bottle into a pint glass.  Look!  There’s actual water!  Did I mention that I’m not wearing any pants!?)

And here’s a picture of our tiny little pond!  We live in the (high) desert, so this is totally artificial.  And guess what I’m not wearing!  That’s right, pants!

Here’s a shot of a tadpole in the pond.  Did you spot the one in the previous picture?  They’re pretty nifty considering that my favorite animal is (Absol) a frog!  These tadpoles are taking forever to undergo metamorphosis.

There’s two types of water there for you: tap and pond.  I hope you enjoyed this rather vague prompt!

Photo Challenge – Something I See in the Morning

10 Jul

Oh!  You guys!  You’re going to love this one!

I realized what was expected of someone doing this challenge: just take a photo of something you see every morning.  Well, I had to go to the bare bones of this prompt.  I wanted to take a picture of something as I was waking up.

In order to pull this off (and hence the reason I kept on messing up this prompt), I kept my DSLR camera next to my head as I slept.  As soon as I woke up I grabbed my camera (which was crazy hard to remember) and snapped off some photos.  I’d like to think that these photos represent our true understanding of the world upon awakening.  Such as the “what the fuck am I looking at I’m so groggy” parts of the world…

This is the first picture of the series.  This occurred at about 7:15 because I remember hearing my Mom finish her workout on the Wii/possibly scramble around in heels… I really wasn’t sure what was going on at this point.  Though, you can see my foot!

Also, let me clarify, with a DSLR camera, you have to actually (unless you’re a wimp) hold the eyepiece up to take a shot.  In these instances, I just picked the thing up and shot from my lap and/or chest… once again, I really don’t remember.

Somehow, I managed to shoot off two photos.  I think that my hand probably lollygagged around and shot this.  Hilariously, this shot is of the door possibly a “ohhhh gawdddd… Sabre shut the hell up, I’m going to feed you!” or a “it’s so farrrr away!”

Strangely enough, this photograph took place after I returned from feeding the cat and going to the bathroom, and yet this is the least distinguishable of the set so far.  I believe that’s my foot and the lights running down the wall are from the sunlight pouring into the room, but strangely, I just wanted to take a photo of the closet door.  BECAUSE IT IS THAT AWESOME.

One would believe that after the third photo my morning would be finished.  However, I wake up twice in the morning!  The first time is to feed the cat (blegh!) which leads to me going to the bathroom (yeah!), and the time this occurs varies upon Sabretooth’s temper/laziness/hunger/desire for attention.  Then, I proceed back to sleep and wake up again this time to my alarm.  So, this photo takes place during the second wake up.  To be fair, I looked at my alarm and thought “shit, did I get any good photos earlier?”  So, I shot this one off BECAUSE IT IS ADORABLE AND MY CAT IS SLEEPING NEXT TO ME.  It’s also blurry as shit which could be interpreted as my eyes opening.

And this last one is of my legs under the covers about to be pulled out.  HOW GRAND!

Hope you enjoyed my experimental wake-up-and-shoot-photos-as-your-eyes-are-glazed-over excitement!  For more entertaining things involving pictures, check out my archive of the PHOTO CHALLENGE!

Photo Challenge – Love

6 Jul

Hey!  My shirt’s off!

My favorite thing of the last couple of weeks has been getting out and throwing a disc around with my friends.  Just tossing back and forth and trying new throws.

This here above is my disc aptly titled “The Bruised Octagon” not necessarily because of the bruises it receives, but the bruises that it leaves behind.

In fact, today, I threw a Thumber at Troy and it slowly floated down with a beautiful arc into Troy’s face… cutting up his lip.  To be fair, Troy did try to catch THE SOFTEST THROW EVER, but he failed.  His lip can attest to that.

One thing about the disc lately is that Troy and Aaron have coined the “Captain America” throw.  It is – by far – the dumbest throw ever.  It hurts the eyes until they bleed with sunblock in them.  Then your eyes throw up brooches that you pull a Jocasta on.  This may also be because I can’t throw it that well (I’ve got the basics)… but I’d like to think that it’s because the throw is truly awful.  It probably has a different name in real Ultimate circles.  Mind you, they also coined this throw less than a week before Independence Day… ergh.

Anyway, I’m always open to new people to throw with.  I don’t care too much if you’re terrible because I can always help you learn.

Photo Challenge – Something You’re Reading

3 Jul

After a bit of a false start, Kevin Keller and I are both enjoying “Summer Fun!”  So, that’s to say that I’m a little to be reading at the moment what with all of the disc I’ve been throwing lately…  I’m barely keeping up with my pull list for comics, but I have managed to squeeze in some reading over the last month.  Like 3 volumes of Tiny Titans (super short reads, I know, but they’ve made me laugh pretty hard for a comic reading), 2 volumes of Criminal, and the 2nd volume of Incognito.

Kevin Keller’s comic features prominently because I won’t be only reading that one for fun.  Sure, I’ll get some enjoyment out of it because I’ve grown fond of Archie Comics.  However, my end goal is to utilize this comic for my article on Kevin Keller and the representation of gay identity within the comic series/the Archie Universe as a whole.  It’s been rather frustrating because I think the series is shipping on a bi-monthly schedule so I’ve been waiting awhile for this one.  I decided that my scope would encompass the miniseries, the gay marriage issue, and the first three issues of his own series to make the grand total 8 comic books (though, Life With Archie #16 is basically two comics in a magazine format).

While working on my article on comics, I’ll read some while I’m at it.  The other two featured are The Infinite Horizon and Green River Killer.  The Infinite Horizon has Gerry Duggan and Phil Noto as the team behind the series.  It’s a post-apocalyptic horrorshow that sounds pretty awesome.  I picked it up on Free Comic Book Day and have been going through my stacks so I can read it.  From what I’ve gathered (both reading and viewing) Phil Noto is a phenomenal artist.  Green River Killer is a crime comic.  I bought it for Emerald City Comic Con to get it signed, but it was in the shipment that came late from Amazon so I wasn’t able to bring it.  On the outside I don’t think I care too much for crime comics, but I continually find myself reading them and enjoying them… I must secretly enjoy the hell out of them, then.

What’s on your reading list?  I have a whole box full of stuff I need to read, but it’s always great to hear what other people are reading.

Photo Challenge – Backpack

2 Jul

This is a terrible image!  But, I did not really feel like whipping out my DSLR to take a picture of an empty backpack.

Since summer break began, the need for a backpack dissipated.  Sure, last week it was all packed to take my computer, DS, and other goodies to the coffee shop to play around on Pokémon with.  Those plans were changed in lieu of throwing a disc, but it was packed.

This backpack is clearly the best one ever in my possession.  It contains three main compartments with a few smaller ones with MANY zipper scattered throughout.  The first compartment is broken apart in two main sections.  One of which is meant for your laptop, but I try not to travel around with mine too much.

I basically use the first of the two part compartment as my IMPORTANT documents and the second of which is for semi-IMPORTANT documents.  I like to think that it’s a flawless system, but papers eventually make the backpack quite bulky and I begin to lose things within the backpack.  So, I have to remind myself to empty it out every once in awhile.

Overall, it’s sturdy –  4 years and running.  The only thing that has ever broken are two of the extensions of the zippers because they broke off, but it didn’t hurt the zippers at all.

Anyway, reliable, sexy, sexy, sexy, sexy, and awesome.  That’s my backpack.
