Who Could Win a Rabbit

21 Nov

Some days I just really feel like reenacting the Tortoise and the Hare.  Other days, I want to roll around in leaves.  And, in the final other days, I like to feast upon my enemies.

This is a classic song from early Animal Collective.  I have Sung Tongs on vinyl and it is deliciously weird for some people.  I find it fairly tame, but, for others, it can be rather eye-opening – which may not necessarily be a good thing.  Overall, I feel like this is fun.  Fun for the whole family!  One can hope…

Everyday feels like Sunday

11 Nov

You know how I was saying Radiohead had one of the few songs that woke me up while I was sleeping?  Well, I awoke to this song the other morning, and it made me feel very happy.  It’s one of those few songs that I can just sing the chorus over and over again while walking to and from school.  I’d like to think of it as a love song.  So, I hope you’ll enjoy it!

1000 Things We Hate reaches #200!

9 Nov

Today we reached the landmark 200th hate on 1000 Things We Hate!  To celebrate this occasion, I figured I’d do some cross-promotional blog stuff.  So, here’s a excerpt from #200:

We as humans have accomplished a lot (or very little).  One of these accomplishments was the preservation of food with canning.  Now, many people in the world rely on canned goods for sustenance.  It’s unfortunate that fresh food isn’t available for everyone, but canned food provides a relatively easy alternative.  In that respect, I believe that no one will question us in our grand 200th hate that opening a stuck jar lid is probably one of the most infuriating things in the world.

If you like the sound of that, head on over to 1000 Things We Hate #200: Opening Jar Lids!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #3 – Review!

8 Nov

This new issue of TMNT from IDW actually surprised me.  I was fairly disappointed with the last issue, but this one piqued my interest yet again.  I suppose part of the problem with the series so far has been the Turtles have not had their own distinct voices.  Sure, you could differentiate them from the human characters but the turtles who are the headliners did not have as strong of personalities.

This issue rectifies some of those problems.  We are presented with (generally) two great scenes where Raphael and Casey Jones get to know each other and where the three other brothers discuss their fruitless quest to discover their brother who may not even exist.  Raphael and Casey Jones are a bit more sentimental than usual (at least so early in a series), but I really enjoyed their conversation.  The other scene with Mikey, Donnie, and Leo nails the character’s voices.  The scripting/story by Tom Waltz and Kevin Eastman seemed to drastically pick up quality in this third issue as opposed to the last one.  I feel like the series is just now starting to feel comfortable with itself.

One of my primary problems with the last issue was the inconsistencies with the art.  Luckily, nothing glaring occurred in this issue.  I was actually kind of surprised when I saw that Dan Duncan could handle basic talking scenes as opposed to action so well.  His art still has that dynamic fluidity but it is becoming a bit more reserved and for the better.

TMNT #3 isn’t amazing by a longshot, but it is at least entertaining enough to justify picking up a trade later down the road rather than shelling out the $3.99 pricetag now.

Leonardo Commission

6 Nov

I couldn’t remember if I posted this from before.  Nevertheless, it is so good it warrants being posted twice.  Here’s my Leonardo Commission by Jim Lawson.  He recreated my favorite frames in all of comics that takes place during the Mirage Vol. 1 story Return to New York.  Enjoy!

6 Nov

Over the nighttime period, we surpassed 300,000 total views on this site.  Of course, this has been over a 2 and a half year period.  So, nothing short of impressive.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported this blog and the changes we’ve made.  We would have never been able to get to this many views if not for the hard work put into 1000 Things We Hate.  As we go into this new phase of this blog with 1000 Things We Hate separated to a new blog, we hope that you can continue enjoying hearing people rant and rave about the little things you hate.

Our attention will be divided, but we hope to continue providing for you a grand assortment of entertainment.

I can’t wait until we hit 1,000,000.

Thanks!

Hello, Goodbye

4 Nov

How many songs have less than ten words in them that impact you so tremendously?  I first heard this El Perro Del Mar song in highschool going through a rough relationship patch, and it made me feel like someone was speaking to me – as cheesy as that sounds.

It has that sort of gumpsion in its simplicity.  It catches you and lets you know that beginnings are simple as are endings, but we make them extremely complicated.  But, it’s okay that we do because its exhilarating.

Hope you enjoy.

La La Love You

2 Nov

This is the sort of infectious song that I really enjoy.  The Pixies still are a phenomenal band (I happened to see them on their reunion tour) that really need to record a new album.  Nevertheless, they have a potpourri of songs to draw upon and this is one of my favorite ones that often gets overlooked.  It’s super simple, but I enjoy the hell out of it.  I can often be heard whistling the opening lead guitar line.  It’s just that splendid.

Enjoy!

Another Note on 1000 Things We Hate

1 Nov

Also!  You may be wondering, “WHY THE HELL HAVE THERE NOT BE ANY UPDATES!?”

A related question may be, “WHERE THE FUCK HAS 1000 THINGS WE HATE DISAPPEARED TO!?”

To both of those questions, I’d like to refer you to the new blog at 1000 Things We Hate.

I have already explained this (I believe), but I will again.  1000 Things We Hate has gotten too big for this site alone, and I made the executive decision to move all of the posts over to its own website.  I’m still working out the kinks, but I’ve been posting regularly over there.  And, why’s that!?

Well, I need your help.  1000 Things We Hate is a new blog meaning that all of the page views that boost it up the google search have been cut significantly.  The blog doesn’t have that many people referring to it even though it still has upwards of 200 posts.  Once we draw more attention (by posting more) the stats will pick up, but, for now, it’s just a baby.

So please, help this baby grow… don’t spoil it with a recall on baby formula.

Waking up in the Morning

1 Nov

Imagine it:

It’s about 3 in the morning.  Sabretooth (my cat) is laying in between my legs sleeping.  I wake up.

I fall asleep to music every night and let it play as I sleep on shuffle.

I can usually fall asleep to all music except for Godspeed You! Black Emperor or some other artists.

I have never been awoken by music before.

What do I wake up to?

Yep.  They did it.  Thanks, Radiohead.
